Choose one of the stories grouped under "A Good Man is Hard to Find," read it, and then compose a 150-200 word blog post that introduces the story you chose and makes an argument for its connection to O'Connor's stories. Remember! Don't focus on plot!
Tip: The best comparison analyses come from arguments that point out a unique and even unexpected similarity and then build their theses from there!

I loved this story! It captures the beauty and impossibility of achieving and authentic state of grace. I would like to read another O'Connor story, maybe "Everything that Rises Must Converge" to show how O'Connor "flips the script" with her archetypal characters.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the grandmother DOES achieve grace at the end? Does she get it? What about the Misfit?
DeleteI think O'Conner may be arguing that there are different kinds of "grace." Do you think that word means the same thing for both the grandmother AND the Misfit?
DeleteI'm not sure that it does mean the same thing for both of them, though if we look at O'Connor as a deeply Catholic writer, she probably had a specific definition of "grace" in mind. I'm going to a little research...
